Robyn Chu, MOT, OTR/L, Owner and CEO
Robyn Chu, MOT, OTR/L is an Occupational Therapist specializing in working with children, families, and adults with Sensory Processing and Integration Disorder.
Robyn is a fellow of Dr. Lucy Jane Miller, OTR and faculty of Sensory Treatment and Research (STAR) Institute. She educates therapists from all over the country and world on treatment for sensory processing differences.
Robyn advocates for all people impacted by sensory processing differences to help them and others to understand the impact of these challenges on meaningful participation in daily life. She believes that challenges in sensory processing lead to challenges in emotional regulation, developing and maintaining relationships, social skills and overall mental health.
Robyn has co-authored a chapter in the 3rd edition of Sensory Integration: Theory and Practice, the textbook for sensory evaluation and treatment, alongside world renowned pioneers in the field – Lucy Jane Miller, PhD OTR and Sarah Schoen, PhD OTR. She has also co-authored 7 papers published in peer reviewed journals over the past 5 years.
As Senior Faculty of the Sensory Therapies and Treatment Institute, she is a key opinion leader in assessment, treatment and education related to Sensory Processing and Integration development and disorders. Robyn teaches and assists in the design of the certification courses in SPD/SI, educating therapists worldwide. She is assisting with the standardization and development of the latest assessment for Sensory Processing Disorder – soon to become the gold standard for identification of SPD and supporting research.
Robyn is also a consultant for companies in other industries that are interested in being more sensory friendly, recently including a construction company.
Robyn is passionate about working with families and other therapists and she continues to do so as a clinician and educator. She founded Growing Healthy Children Therapy Services 16 years ago and has led the company to become a passionate group of 75 therapists. She continues to provide consultation to schools and other therapy practices as she has done for over 15 years. Robyn also has sensory processing differences herself and is the mother of three children, 1 of which with sensory processing differences. She uses her real life experiences to help her clients better understand the impact of SPD on family dynamics, relationships, and the day to day demands of life with sensory processing differences.
Kristi Vecellio, OTR/L, Clinical Director
Kristi began her career as an OT in 2003 after graduating from The University of Pittsburgh. Her first position was at a private clinic where she was mentored for 3 years by an expert in sensory integration. She gained experience using an intensive short-term model of intervention, seeing students 3-5 days per week and working closely with the whole family. This early immersion and knowledge for how to support sensory processing and work with the whole family has informed her entire care working with children and adults in a variety of settings and regions of the country.
Kristi has studied and obtained certifications to help her provide a broad range of wellness interventions for families, including strength and conditioning, feeding, hippotherapy and functional medicine. Kristi has a passion for providing individualized, strengths-based care that starts with meeting the basic needs of nutrition, sleep, time in nature, and meaningful connection.
Kristi joined Growing Healthy Children in 2016 and immersed herself in the STAR Process as a mentee, working directly with Dr. Lucy Jane Miller and other esteemed faculty of the STAR Institute while serving families and mentoring clinicians at the Rescue headquarters. In 2018 Kristi stepped into the role of Clinical Director to support a fast-growing team, raise up new leaders, expand our high-quality programs, and ensure the company’s mission, vision, and core values are put into action every day.
Kristi is pursuing her clinical doctorate degree in occupational therapy and raising a 9 year old daughter. Outside of work and family, her leisure passion is mountain and gravel biking. Kristi serves on the board or otherwise supports a variety of non-profit organizations that use biking as a means to improve quality of life and increase equity of access to resources for women, children, physically challenged, and neurodiverse individuals.
