The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide high-quality therapy services to clients. The COTA assists in implementing individualized treatment plans, supporting client progress, and promoting functional independence. This role is vital in helping clients achieve meaningful outcomes in daily living, school, or community activities, while fostering a safe, engaging, and supportive environment.

What Your Day Looks Like:
  • Implement treatment plans developed by the supervising OT, adjusting interventions as instructed.
  • Assist in monitoring and documenting client progress, including completion of therapy notes and data collection.
  • Prepare and maintain therapy materials, equipment, and activity areas to support sessions.
  • Support clients in achieving therapeutic goals related to motor skills, sensory processing, self-care, and functional independence.
  • Communicate effectively with OTs, clients, families, and other team members regarding client progress and needs.
  • Participate in client assessments as directed by the OT, including observations and recording of performance.
  • Maintain adherence to regulatory, ethical, and safety standards in all therapy activities.
  • Assist in the supervision of support staff or therapy students when appropriate.
Qualifications:
  • Current certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
  • Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant or equivalent from an accredited program.

Schedule and Work Structure

This role offers flexibility across school-based and clinic settings. As with most pediatric roles, schedules may vary due to:
